The Food and Culture of White House State Dinners

Throughout the history of this country, our Presidents have hosted State Dinners for visiting diplomats, dignitaries, and presidents. In this talk Sohn follows some trends from Thomas Jefferson s French wines to Jackie Kennedy s china. This talk will present the inside story regarding White House protocol training, guest invitations, table settings, meal planning, wine selections, entertainment, and designer gowns. Finally, Sohn will offer White House recipes that you can make.

NOTE: If your group would like to prepare dishes in the spirit of any one of our presidents (from George Washington to George W.,) Sohn will help you select State Dinner recipes.

No equipment needed; this talk is easily tied to the KHC/Smithsonian Institution traveling exhibit, Key Ingredients. See www.keyingredients.org.
