
Food and Culture of Abe Lincoln's Kentucky Childhood, 1809

From the time of his birth on February 12, 1809, until his family moved to Indiana in 1816, Abraham Lincoln lived on the frontier near the area that would become Elizabethtown. In this talk Sohn will present Native American, regional, and frontier history, as well as Lincoln’s family story. In addition, he will discuss a Lincoln-style family hearth, kitchen, home, garden, and farmstead. He will also consider period food choices including wild game, edible wild plants, and garden produce. Recipes and references will be provided.
